First Snow

We don't get rain at a constant rate like Oregon here. It is sunny for days, and then we get a day or two of just monsoon rain. Water dumps from the sky with lighting and thunder for hours at time, and we record outrageous rain fall like 3 inches in 50 minutes!! While the rain is awesome for cuddling or sleeping soundly at night, it really created headaches of flooding, erosion, and low energy on work days. Still, the took the a picture of Pikes Peak the next morning when I took Maggie to the doggy park. Some of my teammates hiked it that morning, but Tina needed the car and I wasn't ready to hike all day and the miss the football games. In the picture, you can see Garden of the Gods to the lower left corner (the bright red peaks). My school is near the cliff drilling (the brown open space near the right bottom of the mountain). Remember, you can click on any picture to make it full screen if you want! Just a few facts about Pikes Peak....

- It is about 1,050,000,000 years old (1.05gyr)
- It is 14, 119 ft at the top (Hood is at about 12, 300ft)
- Its peak can be seen from the Kanas border
- Its one of 100 14's in Colorado.
- It takes between 4-5.5 hours to hike up it.
- Hikes aren't allowed before dawn or after dusk due to lions, wolves, and bears!
